The Conjuring Review
Scary movies are on the trending pattern now. Hollywood looks to release The Helpers and You’re Next in the near future, but many people and critics are babbling about the latest horror flick, The Conjuring. Critics proclaim the blockbuster as a horror-film masterpiece. This terrifying and puzzle pieced film is based on a true story from a family who lived through Hell in the 1960’s, but refused to tell what happened in their home…until now. From the advice from critics, viewers would believe the movie would truly be a masterpiece of horror, although this film has the same set up as any other typical horror flick; the build up of intensity during the beginning of the film and the same-o exorcism performed towards the end. Build ups in a horror film could be boring, and not-so-scary because it is just “setting the scene.” Some viewers look for a different set up in a horror flick, especially when the movie is pronounced as a “masterpiece.” Many viewers still give two thumbs up for this show. After the “set up” of the movie, its truly like a walk through a haunted house, and would leave you paranoid going home. With no sex or gore and very few cursing, it’s a good idea to go check it out. The Conjuring earns the title “horror flick of the summer”, although it was not as what critics proclaimed it would be, how would this live up to the eager –to-see Insidious 2? |
MSU Dairy Store Review
There is little to no down time for the Dairy Store from the campus of Michigan State University. The attractive checkered floor and characteristic decorations bring an uplifting spirit to costumers. The store itself is quite small, but does offer an outside patio for sitting, plus an exclusive overhead look down into the factory where all of their dairy products are produced. There are many flavors that express the Dairy Store, the most popular ones are the Sesquicentennial Swirl and the Buckeye Blitz. Sesquicentennial Swirl is a cake batter mixed with whip cream and the Buckeye Blitz is a big load of chocolate delight. There’s not only ice cream here, but there is also a snack stand, (mostly dairy like donuts) and a coffee stand for those college students who need that pep in their step for their morning classes. Some college students become regular costumers and fall in love with The Dairy Store. Regular customers can buy the Dairy Store’s own produced and packaged ice cream and cheese that is up for sale in the store. There is a down side of the Dairy Store because it truly lives up to its name. The Dairy Store has no dairy-free products, so those who are lactose intolerate have to take the risk. Even the Orange Sherbet has a water-based dairy in it, which is a huge disappointment. Prices are not too shabby, although there is only one size for the milkshakes for about four bucks and around 16 ounces big. There are three different cone sizes and three different cup sizes. This Dairy Store is well known on a national level and is recommended. Where: 1140 S. Anthony Hall East Lansing, MI 48824 Hours: Mon-Fri.: 9am – 8pm Wait for food: One minute or less Ambience: The menu is diverse (no dairy-free) assembly-line process, busy all day especially when warm out. Man of Steel OST Review
Many know of the iconic soundtrack of the composer’s John Williams for the original Superman movie released back in 1978. The newest Superman movie: Man of Steel’s, distinguishes a drastic change in tone and mood in the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer, a well –known composer for his works on The Lion King (Academy award winner), The Last Samurai (Academy nominee), and The Dark Knight(Grammy award winner), has taken a different approach to the soundtrack of Man of Steel, providing a diversity of tone and mood throughout the soundtrack. Opening scene is very spiritual, pulling viewers into the eager-to-see blockbuster. Although it seemed the soundtrack changed drastically, too quickly in some spots of the movie, to where viewers are distracted. During production of Man of Steel, many fans wanted the original soundtrack to stay, but director Zack Snyder denied that hope. Following in Williams footsteps, Zimmer was very skeptical and procrastinated. In the end, Zimmer and his fans were pleased. As all Superman fans know, a Superman movie is filled with many emotions – and so is the soundtrack. Zimmer takes viewers to the other edge of their seat as the soundtrack fills them with the rattle of a bass cello’s strings that stream throughout the movie. Not only does the soundtrack fit the bill of the movie, it’s also enjoyable to listen without the movie itself. Musicians will be inspired by the preciseness of the instrumentals involved throughout the soundtrack; particularly with the 12-man drum solo. For the full soundtrack of the Man of Steel soundtrack and more work of Zimmer, may be found on iTunes. |
